General Dental Check Up

Good oral health can be maintained with regular dental checkups with your dentist. Dental problems when detected at an early stage can be treated with the least amount of pain and in less time. It is important to get regular dental health check ups to avoid complications, rather than wait for a condition to get complicated.

A routine dental checkup is the key to healthy teeth and oral health. By regularly having your teeth checked by your dentist, you could prevent any serious complications that could arise from an infected tooth. A lot of times we have seen that patients will visit their dentist only when they feel the need to, which could include times when they have a tooth ache or something more urgent such as an infected tooth with abscess.

A regular checkup and cleaning removes stains that develop on your teeth due to your diet and lifestyle choices which could include caffeine, smoking, chewing tobacco etc.

How does a dentist check my teeth?

During your dental checkup your dentist will visually inspect your teeth and gums and look for any signs of dental cavities, tooth decay, wear and tear, cracks and any issues with your gums. Your dentist will discuss with you about any pain you may be having with your teeth or gums. Your dentist will also visually examine your jaw and neck region.

Your checkup could also include a cleaning process which is also called as 'scaling'. This will help clean calcified deposits which have naturally formed on your teeth. These calcified deposits are usually seen on the inside of the teeth and also on the teeth at the back. If left unchecked these deposits can lead to disease causing bacteria which in turn can cause inflammation of the gums and sometimes bone loss around your teeth as well.

Dental X-Ray

Your dentist may suggest an X-Ray based on the condition of your teeth and gums. A digital X-ray can help in detecting problems you may have that can't be detected with visual examination. Your dentist will use a digital X-ray which is safe and can provide instant results.
