Chipped or Cracked Teeth

A tooth or your jaw can be damaged due to several reasons. Dental trauma can be caused due to an automobile accident, a bad fall, a sports accident and also from something as simple as biting onto a hard object.

Chipped Teeth

A chipped tooth does not require emergency care especially if there is no damage to the pulp. You may need to get it treated if the chipped tooth has a sharp edge that's cutting into your tongue or inner cheek. You may also want it treated for aesthetic reasons, especially if the chipped tooth happens to be one of your front teeth.

Remedies for a Chipped Tooth

If the tooth is chipped and there is no damage to the pulp, the simplest solution is to smoothen the sharp edges of the tooth. Your dentist could also use a tooth colored composite to replace the missing part of the tooth. Other solutions to mend a chipped tooth involve using a dental crown or a porcelain veneer to cover the damaged tooth.

In case the root of the tooth has been damaged then you may need a root canal treatment. If the damage is extensive then your dentist may suggest a bridge or a dental implant.

Consult your Dentist

It is always good practice to get your teeth checked by your dentist, if you have experienced some form of trauma to your jaws or teeth. Sometimes what may seem like negligible trauma to your tooth, may over time develop other complications.
